Pocono Pub presents check for homeless veterans

BARTONSVILLE — The Original Pocono Pub and Grill presented a $3,045 check donation Thursday night to Operation Chillout, a New Jersey-based organization working to help homeless U.S. military veterans.

The money came from Pocono Pub’s business profits.

Operation Chillout members report their organization has rescued 75 homeless veterans this year. Of the 75, 10 were homeless in Monroe County.

One veteran rescued from Ledgewood, N.J., was brought to Paul’s House, the former Jonas Hotel in Polk Township. Run by another veterans’ organization called VALOR (Veterans Assisted Living and Outreach), Paul’s House provides transitional housing for veterans while they look for permanent housing, employment and help with paper work, benefits and post-traumatic stress disorder.
