N.J. town officially recognizes homeless encampments in woods

HOWELL – The town council adopted a resolution at its meeting Tuesday night officially recognizing the homeless encampments located on township-owned land in the woods of Route 9.

In adopting the resolution, the township will select a non-profit organization that will provide greater oversight of the encampment and its residents.

The township “has decided to formally recognize a ‘Howell Transitional Encampment’ in order to provide temporary accommodations for pre-approved homeless individuals who meet the criteria through (a) non-profit organization appointed by the Township,” the resolution states.
