5K run/walk for homeless veterans in Frenchtown

The Hunterdon County American Legion has organized a 5K run/walk to raise money for homeless veterans. Many of our soldiers who served to protect our freedoms currently find themselves facing economic hardships. The former Hagedorn facility in Glen Gardner has been converted to Veterans Haven North, a transitional home for our veterans who are homeless. Veterans Haven’s mission is to ensure that homeless veterans are “treated and cared for in a dignified, compassionate and professional manner so as to reach an optimal level of independence.”

The program assists veterans in acquiring the skills needed to successfully live independently. In order to be admitted to the program, individuals must be a veteran under USDVA guidelines, be homeless, and be both drug and alcohol free.

The cost to participate in the run is $25 per person. The goal is to raise enough funds to purchase and donate a van to Veterans Haven North. Join on Saturday, May 18 at Deer Path Park on West Woodschurch Road at 8:30 a.m. Contact Bill Tinsman, Commander of the Hunterdon County American Legion at 908-310-1089 with questions or to make a donation.
